Show Only If Display Rules (Targeting)
Under the “Display Rules” tab for each widget, you will find the “Show Only If” section, which allows you to choose precisely on which pages, under which conditions the widget should appear.
There are various options available for example:
- Behavior: time on site, the current page URL, current date
- Visit source: session referrer, session referrer URL, referrer page URL
- History: the number of viewed pages, time from first visit
- Technology: screen width, platform (e.g. desktop), cookie
- Geography: Visitor’s country, region and city
- Convertful: no other widget shown or specify specific widget
- Integrations: if you have integrated with another platform, for example, an email marketing platform, you will see options to target for these platforms as well.
Multiple Targeting Conditions #
You can add more than one “Show Only If” conditions, using either an “and” or an “or” depending on what you want to achieve.
An “and” is used to group the conditions together, so that the widget will display if all the conditions are met.
For example if you want to set up the widget to show only on desktop and to exclude certain pages, you would then use “and” to set the condition that the widget should display only if:
- Platform is desktop “and”
- Current Page URL doesn’t match … “and”
- Current Page URL doesn’t match ….
An “or” on the other hand is used to separate out the conditions from each other so that the widget will display if any one of the conditions is met. Each condition is independent of each other and the widget will display if any one of the conditions is met. For example, if you want to display the widget on only 2 pages, you would set the condition that the widget should display only if:
- Current Page URL matches … “or”
- Current Page URL matches ….
You can use both the “and” and “or” together to create groups of conditions for when the widget should display. For example, if you want the widget to display only on desktop and for 2 specific pages as well as to display if the visitor has been referred from a specific facebook link. You would then use the set the “Show Only If” rule as per below image:
In the above example, there are 3 groups of conditions which are independent of each other and the widget will display if any one of the condition groups is met. So for example in the case of visitors that have been referred from Facebook, the widget will display on all platforms and not only on desktop.
Note that setting up a large number of conditions can be a little confusing, especially if you use both positive and negative conditions together, for example “is” and “isn’t”, “matches” and “doesn’t match”. We suggest that in this case you go slow and set each condition group one by one, test first and then add the next group of conditions.
