How to Connect Convertful with MailChimp
With Convertful you can easily integrate your account with MailChimp and use widgets to grow and segment your mailing list. Just follow the guide below to set up MailChimp integration and set up relevant actions.
Connecting Integration #
In your site’s Integrations tab, add new integration and choose MailChimp. You can use one of two options below to establish a connection.
Account Login #
You can press the "Connect" button and log in to your MailChimp account to establish a connection. Press the "Log In" button to connect.
API Key #
This connection type will request your API key, which you can find in your MailChimp account settings. Go to your MailChimp Profile, open the Extras list, and pick the API keys item:
Fill in the API key and press the Connect button.
Default Settings #
Once connected, you can specify which lists relate to the site, so Convertful wouldn’t show you non-relevant lists, groups, and tags in options. Also, you can specify double opt-in feature here:
By default, each widget will automatically add subscribers to the Default List:
Note, that default settings are not mandatory and you can always specify custom lists and tags manually for each specific widget while editing its button's actions.
Mapping Custom Fields #
We try to find the most relevant MailChimp custom field for every Convertful field automatically. But if you need to fine-tune which fields we should use, you can do this in the integration settings, by editing Custom Fields list:
You can find these custom fields in your MailChimp's Audience --> Settings --> Audience fields and Merge tags:
Actions #
When editing your widget's button, inside its settings you can see “On Submit Actions” / “On Click Actions” which you can use to perform actions provided by MailChimp integration:
- Add subscriber with default settings
- Add subscriber to a list
- Add subscriber to a group
- Remove subscriber from a group
- Add tag to subscriber
- Remove tag from subscriber
- Update custom field
- Add note to subscriber
When updating custom fields you can send the dynamic data to the integration:
Widgets Display Rules #
Once the integration is connected you’ll be able to use the new Show If targeting options in the widgets’ Display Rules:
When specifying custom fields, be sure to use the exact MailChimp’s fields format (as described above).
Identifying Visitors #
To target widgets by the integration’s data, Convertful needs to identify a visitor. This happens when either:
- The visitor submits his/her email address via one of your widgets.
- The visitor opens your site with the special conv_email tracking parameter that contains his/her email address.
So you can add the:
?conv_email=*|EMAIL|*
to your MailChimp emails’ links, and when your subscribers open these links, they will be properly identified for targeting rules:
In Convertful, Site > Subscribers section, you can view the synchronized custom fields for each of the identified subscribers.
This may be useful for the in-depth understanding of how your widget campaigns work.
